Hello everyone!

Last week, a friend asked me an interesting question:
โWith the haze getting so bad lately, should we dry our clothes indoors instead of hanging them outside to avoid air pollution?โ
My response was: Indoor air is not necessarily cleaner than outdoor air.
Fine airborne particles, particularly PM2.5, can easily enter our homes through open windows, doors, and other openings. When windows are left open for extended periods, indoor air pollution levels may approach those outdoors.
However, drying wet clothes indoors, especially in poorly ventilated bedrooms, presents another potential health concern โ excessive humidity and mould growth!
As wet clothes dry, they continuously release moisture into the surrounding air, increasing indoor humidity. When ventilation is inadequate, the resulting damp conditions can create a favourable environment for mould to grow.
Mould releases microscopic spores that can become airborne and be inhaled. Exposure to these spores may trigger allergic reactions, respiratory irritation, and inflammation. It can also aggravate asthma and other respiratory conditions, particularly among people with allergies, existing respiratory problems, or weakened immune systems.
My advice is to avoid drying wet clothes in enclosed, poorly ventilated bedrooms whenever possible.
When outdoor haze makes it undesirable to hang clothes outside, consider using a tumble dryer or drying them in a designated indoor area equipped with a dehumidifier. Ideally, keep indoor relative humidity below 60%.
๐ฟ Haze Affects More Than Just Our Lungs!
Many people associate haze primarily with coughing, breathing difficulties, and respiratory discomfort.
But did you know that PM2.5 can also affect our blood vessels and cardiovascular health?
Exposure to fine particulate air pollution can contribute to oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, and impaired blood vessel function. Over time, prolonged exposure may increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes.
With growing concerns about haze and its potential health consequences, I am planning a special livestream within the next day or two to discuss:
๐น Choosing an effective air purifier โ What should we look for, and which features really matter?
๐น Getting better protection from face masks โ How do we choose, wear, and fit masks correctly to improve their effectiveness?
๐น Improving indoor air quality โ What practical steps can we take to reduce our exposure to PM2.5?
๐น Understanding how haze affects our blood vessels โ What happens to our cardiovascular system when we inhale polluted air?
๐น Protecting ourselves and our families โ What scientifically supported measures can help minimise the harmful effects of air pollution?
๐ Prevention Is Better Than Cure
Understanding the risks of air pollution is the first step towards protecting ourselves and our loved ones.
I warmly invite you to join my upcoming Nontoxic Wellness livestream, where we will explore practical, evidence-based ways to safeguard our respiratory and cardiovascular health during hazy conditions.
Please share this message with friends and family who may find it useful.
Thank you, and stay well!
