Oat groats contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, several different B-vitamins and vitamin E. Additionally, oats have trace minerals, such as manganese, copper, iron, selenium and zinc. They are also full of phytochemicals, which are good for you, and contain both insoluble and soluble fiber.
Stove top cooking instruction:
1. Bring 3 cups water and a dash of salt to a boil in a medium saucepan.
2. Add 1 cup oat groats, cover, and reduce temperature to a gentle simmer for 40 minutes.
3. Remove the lid and simmer for 10-15 minutes longer, stirring occasionally, until soft and the water is absorbed.
4. If desired, remove from the heat, cover and let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Can be top and served with your flavorite berries, banana or apple.
